Truly personalized education is within our reach. Imagine math that really pushes the edge of your ability, customized spelling lists just for you, and 1 on 1 time with a teacher that knows exactly where you are, and can focus on your specific needs. We no longer have to teach to the middle.
Our students are great!
We come from a small Southern Utah community. While our 4th grade students work hard and love to learn, many come from low income families. They have a passion for learning and just need a few things to open up the world to them.
My Project
Each student in my classroom will soon have access to the web with all of our powerful learning resources. We use Khan Academy to supplement our math program and this allows students to progress at their own pace through the math program. We also use a spelling program that keeps students practicing words until they master them, and drops words off their list that they already know. This allows students to truly have a personalized spelling program just for them. These are a few of the resources we use but our biggest challenge is students have a limited amount of time on the few computers we have. This grant will ensure that all of my students have access by having 30 computers one for each individual child.
Individualized learning is the ultimate goal for education.
Technology is the key to making sure that each individual child is getting the instruction that that child needs. Imagine the success we will see when we stop teaching to the middle, and start teaching the individual child.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
