This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss hit the nail on the head! Help us go to more places with books in Spanish for our dual immersion classroom!
We are a knowledge thirsty 1/2 dual immersion classroom!
We all love to read, but we need help getting the materials to keep us going. Our first graders are a mixed bag of kiddos - some are ready for second grade reading and some are just starting first grade reading books. And the same goes for our second graders! But the one thing we all have in common is we all love to read! We have a cool little reading nook in the corner of our room with a giant Truffula tree coming out of the corner (Dr. Seuss is a class and teacher favorite!).
My Project
We desperately need more Spanish books for us to read. We just recently started the Accelerated Reader program and unfortunately we have very, very few books that can be found on Accelerated Reader. We are very excited to hit our goals for words read and number of tests passed, but we are lacking the materials to get there. Having books at different levels (emergent and not) will allow those kids who need to master basic reading skills the opportunity to do so, and those children who are ready to go to the next grade level do that.
Instilling in my students a love of reading will positively set them up for the rest of their academic careers and their lives. Reading opens doors and the more doors you open, the farther you'll go.
This project is very important to me and to my kids because we live in a literate world.
The basis of everything we do is in reading, writing, listening and speaking. These books will make a big difference for us to be able to achieve these goals.
Many of my students love to read in both English and Spanish. Not having the materials in Spanish to allow them to participate in reading can shut the door to reading in that language, or any other, forever. Please, help us open more doors!
