Mr. C! Can I have a pencil? Mr. C! My pencil won't sharpen! Mr. C! The sharpener ate my pencil! These are three things I hear multiple times a day. With your help, together we can eliminate some unnecessary distractions my students have and enhance their learning environment.
I have some of the hardest working third-graders.
They live in a very rough neighborhood, on the east side of Indianapolis, but they do not let that get in the way of their education. My students have a desire to learn, and do not let the distractions of their home life get in the way of that. Our school strives to push students to their full potential with a special focus on reading and math. We are a Title I school with limited resources, yet our students strive to be the absolute best. Last school year, we far exceeded most schools in the district by earning an A from the state of Indiana! It was the best year our school has EVER had. This was achieved through hard work from both teachers and students.
One crank pencil sharpener rarely works properly and with one functioning electric sharper for 30 third graders eager to learn, this can create a recipe for disaster in my classroom. Our broken is extremely noisy and eats up more pencils than it properly sharpens. This causes distractions and causes students to lose focus. New pencil sharpeners around our large room will allow my students to get up and sharpen pencils without having to form a line and distract others. We are constantly testing, taking notes, and completing assignments completely in pencil! There is nothing worse than a dull pencil while you're working, or a pencil that won't sharpen in an old sharpener! This will help my students have a more focused and better work ethic on a daily basis.
Because we have such low-income families, school supplies are often provided by the teacher.
This creates financial strains on me to provide them with the daily items they need. My students know they can do anything they set their minds to. I would like to help eliminate distractions in their education by providing them with quiet, efficient pencil sharpeners to help with our daily routine! These students deserve the best and I want to help them achieve that with new, quiet sharpeners!
