Students at my new school are amazing. They understand the relationship between hard work and success. I'm impressed and inspired by these kids, and I'm always looking for new and better ways to support them.
My students are as diverse as a group of kids can possibly be.
They come from all different backgrounds. At my school we celebrate this diversity. We focus on learning from each other.
Barry Lopez writes, "Each culture, it seemed to me, is a repository of some good thought about the universe; we are valuable to each other for that."
My Project
This year my school will be issuing iPads to every student. Students will use these iPads at home and in the classroom. Unfortunately, the infrastructure to fully take advantage of this technology is not in place. My classroom has an old HP desktop that is not compatible with the iPads, or the software we will use. We need a Mac in the classroom to function as a centralized server for the iPads. This Mac will allow the teacher to manage the iPads efficiently. For example, apps and software can be added quickly in a batch, as opposed to the teacher having to update all 150 iPads individually. The Mac will also function as a printing server to be used with the printer that was donated to my students last year. It is essential that effective supporting technologies are in place to ensure students take full advantage of these iPads, which can be powerful educational tools.
Donations to this project will help fulfill the vision of creating a classroom environment that prepares students for a technological future.
The way we educate children is changing with the times. Providing students with access to iPads is a great first step, but it is essential that we don't stop there. A modern educator needs access to current, functional technology to navigate through this important transition.
