This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love to write. We write every day about the 'small moments' in their lives.
My students come from all over the world.
They come from places like the middle east, China, Russia, India, and Africa. Although my kids come from many different places, they all love to learn. They all get excited when I introduce a new concept. They all work hard and are rightfully proud of their work.
My Project
One part of the materials bought with this grant will enhance my writing program. We use whiteboard markers every day to practice spelling and printing. The boxes of curved and straight pieces will help me demonstrate how letters are put together--For example: the letter 'p' is a straight line with a curve. My kindergarten students will be able to physically build letters with the curved and straight pieces.
The second part of the materials bought with this grant will enhance our classroom play center. The trucks, tea set, and tunnels will be used during our free choice period.
The families of many of my students come from places where printing looks completely different than it does here in the US.
The markers and letter parts kit will help many students transition into printing faster.
The trucks, tea set, and tunnels will make our play center more fun and interesting. Imaginative play is an important part of any kindergarten student's development.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
