My students are an incredibly kindhearted bunch!
They are very supportive of one another and their silly teacher. We enjoy celebrating each others' successes big or small. My classroom is not just a learning community, but a caring and supportive family!
My Project
To teach my students the independence and responsibility they crave (and need!), they need chair pouches to keep their personal supplies and belongings accessible and organized. This would lower transition times between subjects because students could access their required materials quickly. By lowering transition times, behavior disruptions would be minimized and, in turn, learning time maximized. This is an opportunity for the students to take responsibility for their materials and learn how to manage and organize their workplace.
Additionally, kindergartners are quite "wiggly" and have a hard time staying seated and focused. For many of my kiddos, this is their first time in a disciplined and structured classroom setting, so having to sit still can be challenging. Other students who are able to sit are easily distracted by those who do need to move. The bitty bottom chair cushions would allow my students who need the extra movement to stay focused on learning without disruptions.

Students will have less distractions from learning with lower transition times and less disruptions from students needing to move. I would be meeting ALL of my students needs by allowing them to have a personalized space to access their supplies, while teaching personal responsibility and organization. Students who need extra movement and stimuli would have their needs met in a non disruptive manner.
