it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My classroom had no band instruments or music library as of one year ago. We started with ten students and in one year we have grown to sixty-five band students. The students are progressing and developing at a rapid rate, but we are without music to keep advancing them to the next level.
My band students are in fifth through eighth grade.
They have band for two hours a week in an after school band program run solely by myself. We are a Title One school located in Chicago. We have an extremely large desire for instrument music in our school. The parents are super supportive and help motivate the students to take their practice outside of school. Many of the students take private lessons with me over the summer and audition for all-city performing arts groups. We perform two school concerts a year and march in local and televised parades. In addition to school concerts, we go to the CPS elementary band festival where we are judged on our playing as a large ensemble.
My Project
My students need solo, small ensemble, and large ensemble music for our band library. My students will be able to study over the summer solos and etudes from the requested books. They will be able to take those solos and perform them for the Chicago Elementary Solo and Ensemble Festival the next school year. The students learn a lot about playing through working in ensembles and this music will allow them the opportunity to do so. Also, the large ensemble music will be used for school concerts and festivals. We currently have a library of only ten songs, which we have already played most of. It is necessary for the students to constantly be exposed to and learning new music. This grant would make that possible on so many different levels for my students.
Our instrumental music library is next to bare.
It is essential for the growth my instrumental musicians to have new music to play. Since we have started this instrumental program from scratch it is difficult to find in school funds to take the students beyond what they are already playing. This music will expose them to new notes, rhythms, and opportunities to make music either alone or in small ensembles.
