My students need a set of science books to learn more about our bodies and how they work. They also need the adorable plush Garden Heroes beanbag characters to introduce each fruit or vegetable.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
"I'd like a Double Cheeseburger Meal, large fry, and a large Coke." How many times is this meal ordered each day? I would like to purchase the tools to teach my students how to make better nutritional choices than this and how those choices can help their bodies function the way they were intended.
I teach in a Title I school, where almost 65% of the students are free or reduced lunch.
The majority of my students eat both breakfast and lunch everyday from our school cafeteria.
My classroom consists of 20 students, who vary in their abilities. In my general education classroom, I teach inclusion students, who have specific learning disabilities, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students, and gifted students. Even though my students differ in background knowledge and capabilities, they each have their own special talents and come to school eager to learn.
My Project
The 'Our Bodies Collection' of books will be used by students in reading, science, and writing. The students will use the information they learn for class and partner discussions as well as for written responses on how their bodies work.
Students will use the 'Garden Heroes' set to learn about positive nutritional choices. The set will provide cross-curricular activities in reading, math, science, writing, and even PE. The fruit and vegetable beanbags will allow a tangible way for students to learn the best food choices. The fact that they're durable for young hands will ensure use for many years with future classes too.
We all have to face daily choices with what to eat.
Though my students are young, if they can learn now which food choices are healthy and how those healthy choices can affect their bodies, they'll hopefully continue to make great nutritional choices as they get older.
