What do kids in Small Town, USA have in common with kids in the rainforest, a busy city in Asia, or a remote village in the desert? Students will learn as they explore this global literature text set and prepare to write and publish their own class book!
My kids LOVE reading!
They spend hours in the classroom each day pouring through the books on the shelves, leaving me sticky notes about what books to buy next! These students go to a small school in a rural economically-depressed area. They are creative, and they seamlessly apply what they've been reading to their writing and work that hangs on our classroom walls. They rarely complain, and they take pride in their work.
My Project
This global literature text set will provide students with the background they need to be able to research, write, and publish their own classroom book. Living in a small close-knit community, it is imperative that I provide resources to show students what happens in other parts of the world. Students will learn about how community extends beyond classroom and city walls, and they will work together to write a classroom book on a universal concept, which will hopefully be published. This project will provide lasting experiences of global awareness. It will enrich their understandings of their own culture, and it will prove that they are teachers and that kids can and do make a difference.
These books will be students' guides throughout this project.
I have selected high-quality literature to lead students through the process of discovering different cultures around the world. They will never again look at their own culture the same way. Their published work will be with them forever, and they will be able to choose a charity that any proceeds will benefit. By supporting this project, you are supporting the students for years to come.
