A ceramic artwork is naked until it has glaze. My students LOVE glazing their ceramic artworks and we are always running out of the colors that I listed. I'm so proud of the work that my students have produced, even in level one classes where many are working with clay for the 1st time ever!
In my Ceramics classes, I have students from 9th-12th grade, from every academic level, from AP students to special needs students.
This gives students a chance to make friends, mentor each other in ways that they wouldn't otherwise. My classes usually have about 35 students in each course. Our school has about 1500 students and it is a diverse mix, both economically and racially and there is a growing unity among our students though. I love working with such a diverse group of kids. They keep it real.
My Project
Students will surely use these glazes down to the last drop. The glazes that I requested are some of the most popular colors that have been used up entirely or are near the end. My students will be glazing their vases next and then a slab-built luminary.
Students often hold onto their ceramic artworks long after they have thrown other artworks away.
The fired ceramics can literally last for generations to come. One of the students that you provide glaze for, may pass along his or her artwork to their great great grandchildren.
