Give Me 30 Playground Fun and Exercise!

My students need balls, jumpropes, sidewalk chalk, frisbees, and other fun things to play with outside during recess!

My Students

Don't you remember recess as the best part of the school day? My students love this time of day, and look forward to it each day! Unfortunately, with a school the size of ours we spend time each week playing in an open area with no equipment. We need some fun stuff to play with!

I have twenty students from different races.

Seeing them play and get along is a magical thing! They don't see color, they just see friends. They see friends just like themselves that just want to play! My school is a Title 1school in an urban area, and some areas are not always safe to play outside! The students come from homes where both parents work, so they spend very little time outdoors, but indoor with video games. Our goal is to get them outside for 30 minutes a day, and we need some physical equipment for them to use!

My Project

NFL Play 60 is the National Football Leagues campaign to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day to help reverse the trend towards childhood obesity. Recess is the best way to support their idea! Recess is where children run and play and learn about their friends. It is a time to enjoy the outdoors and get exercise. It's a time to teach them that outdoor fun is more fun than indoor video games. We need jump ropes, Frisbees, balls, and other playground equipment to use outside. We want sidewalk chalk to draw games like hopscotch, or four corners. We want to create murals, or fun pictures. Healthy happy children do better on class work and on standardize testing! So let's get to playing!!

Donations for this projects will help replace old and broken playground equipment, and help teach my students how to move their bodies, and exercise at the same time.

You would be surprised how many of my students do not know how to jump rope, throw a Frisbee, catch a ball or bounce a ball. Having these items would help teach the children simple things we learned as children. Hopefully, it will show children being outside is fun and a great way to get exercise.
