Geeked Out With Learning Technology

My students need tablets and cases to learn more and be engaged in reading, writing, mathematics, and science.

My Students

I am preparing my students for college, and I need the tools necessary to get them there.

I work in a low income school with most of my students receiving free or reduced priced lunch.

I have multiple students who receive special education services. Many come from single parent households. As a school, we emphasize college readiness. Each class has chosen a college to sponsor the classroom. We wear the college t-shirts, talk about college and encourage students to be ready to go to college when the time comes.

My Project

Technology is becoming more a part of our lives and most students have an online account of some kind. Education needs to grow with this explosion of technology. There are many programs and websites available to enhance education and make my impact in the classroom more effective. The purpose of this grant is to purchase four tablets to use the latest programs and websites to improve students' abilities in both math and language arts. This will also have the added benefit of increasing their technological skills as they navigate and use these educational websites and programs. As teachers we are asked to reach all levels of learners. I plan on using website like Khan Academy to help my students learn to their full potential. I also plan on using Google Docs as a way to get students writing and reading more.

We are encouraged as teachers to differentiate instruction.

With technology I will be able to do this much more efficiently and effectively than I can on my own. Khan Academy allows students to work on their individual levels in mathematics. Many students who begin the year behind their peers in math skills quickly catch up and sometimes surpass their peers as they use Khan Academy. Students are able to work at their own pace.
