My students need human anatomy models with detachable organs, density cubes, a telescope for astronomy night, and science books on physics, astronomy, and biology for STEM learning.

My students love science! My students are engaged, enthused, and eager to learn!
My 7th and 8th graders attend a low-income, Title 1 school.
Our school have more than 70% English learners and many qualify for free/reduced lunch. Despite some of the socioeconomic challenges that they face, my students are extremely hard-working and love science class. They placed top three in both 7th and 8th district science fair, and had the opportunity to compete in this year's county STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fair. Currently, the 7th graders are learning about body systems and we had the opportunity to dissect chicken feet, pig's heart, stomach, and intestines. The 8th graders have been tirelessly working on their mousetrap-powered car project to learn about motion and forces. I believe in the importance of hands-on projects, and the necessity to include engineering and scientific inquiry into the curriculum. Although many of today's high-paying careers are in science and technology, my district allocates relatively little funding for our science program.
My Project
My students will have a visual of different organs and have manipulatives that will aide in the understanding of different body systems. The human body will have different organs that can be taken out for observation, and this body will serve as the model for studying organ systems.
For 8th graders, density cubes are a great way to learn about the concept of density--the unit that most students have difficulty understanding. Seeing these same-sized cubes float or sink will give students a clearer understanding of density.
In addition, spring is a great time to stargaze. Not only are there constellations and meteor showers to observe, some of the planets are also visible in detail with a telescope. I hope to host astronomy night in a few months and give students a hands-on way to stargaze!
Lastly, reading science books provide a great way to engage in science. Basher Science books provides beautifully animated and kid-friendly explanation of various science topics.
Please help donate to this project and help support science education and STEM program at my school.
With the integration of the Next Generation Science Standards, it is incredibly important that my students have the resources to compete the 21st century. Thanks in advanced for your assistant!
