My Project

Flexible learning spaces positively influence a student’s ability to experience deep learning, enabling students to learn, gain knowledge and grow their 21st century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. All students deserve the well-being and social-emotional development that flexible spaces afford.

Flexible seating will allow us to show the pride of the pack at Luminary MIddle: positivity, respect, involvement, determination, and empathy!

Let's be responsive to our students' needs. This includes having spaces that provide the flexibility to work with groups of various sizes ranging from whole class to small groups as well as spaces that better support the different learning needs of students at any time - whether that be for individual focus and quiet, connection and collaboration, or the need to work hands-on to demonstrate understanding.

For my room, I am looking to create a comfy area with couches, chairs and bench seating for small group discussions and student meetings. I am also looking to have bouncy chairs for students who need to move to focus, a tall standing table for those who work best on their feet and floor cushions for spreading out and being comfortable working on the rug on the floor.

A flexible environment where students choose their own seating and arrange and rearrange groupings will enable us to build strong reading, writing, speaking and listening skills!

Our students are transitioning from a familiar school to a a new school which was built to accommodate growth in the Lake Nona area. Giving students choice and a well-designed learning space can help ease that transition. While Luminary Middle School is a new build, classrooms come with desks and chairs and the environs are as pristine. These flexible options will make such a difference to students. Help us create a collaborative and creative culture!
