This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"I feel privileged to be the teacher of this special group of kids and to witness the amazing work they are capable of"
My students need alternative seating, fidgeting tools, and sensory items to help them focus, learn and be successful during the school day.
As a 4th grade general education teacher I have students with a wide variety of needs in my classroom.
Some students have a medical diagnosis of Autism or ADHD, some suffer from attention issues other are just energetic 9 year olds who have trouble focusing and sitting still. These students are in regular education classrooms but have some sensory needs to help get them through instruction.
Washington Elementary is a title 1 school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Our students come to us with a variety of educational obstacles. By funding my project you will be helping some great kids reach their fullest potential.
My Project
Having fidgets and special chair adaptations will allow my students to be able to move silently within the learning environment. Being able to move will reduce anxiety and increase their ability to focus on learning activities. Students who have sensory needs will be able to meet their need for movement without disrupting their own learning or the learning of other students in the classroom.
The new seating will allow students to focus on lessons.
The fidget materials will give their hands something to do so their minds can be engaged and will keep them from disturbing the other learns in our room.
