Do you remember your favorite field trip? When I was in 4th grade, I had the great fortune of being at a school that provided amazing field trip opportunities. Adding iPad technology to my classroom will allow the students to explore the world (despite budget woes) through virtual field trips.
The students in my classroom are avid learners.
They are inquisitive fourth graders who ask constant questions, then set out to find the answers about the things that interest them. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, with various levels of technology available to them outside of school. I feel if I can increase the technology they are exposed to in my classroom, they will be better prepared for the technological world we live in despite their circumstances at home.
My Project
I am seeking two iPad minis (16 GB) and two protective cases for my students. By adding iPads to the classroom, I will be able to bring the entire world to the fingertips of my students within the safety of our classroom. Learning about travel to the Gold Rush through the Panama Canal? Why not take a virtual field trip tracking the sea route through Google Earth. Studying volcanoes in science? Let's tour active and inactive volcanoes across the globe and see the effect a volcanic eruption can have on the landscape.
I am so passionate about incorporating technology into my teaching.
I believe that to be effective educators in a 21st century classroom, we must "speak" to kids in a way that they love and understand. By teaching with technology like an iPad, I am able to bring a world of knowledge to my students' fingertips.
