Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

In ESL class, our focus is listening, speaking, reading and writing English. My goal is to improve students' English levels, get higher scores on ACCESS exams, thus exit the ESL program. All of my students are Spanish speaking kids. We need more bilingual dictionaries to make their life easier.
The school where I teach is a Title I school.
Many students are under poverty. We have 100% reduced lunch. Last year, I taught 1st through 4th grade ESL (English as Second Language), and 7 newcomers who spoke no English at all. We definitely need more bilingual dictionaries for those ESL students to help them learn at school. I would love each of them to take a bilingual dictionary to their regular classroom and home to help them with their classwork and homework. We have all Spanish speaking ESL students except one last year and this year. Most of our ESL students don't have Internet access at home. If they have a dictionary, then they don't need internet to translate. What I've noticed is that, students know what to write about a certain prompt and know how to express their ideas and thoughts in Spanish. The language is what they are struggling with believe having a bilingual dictionary is required for ESL students. It will make their school life much easier and more proficient.
My Project
Students will get to keep the dictionary for the whole school year. They get to use the bilingual dictionary in their regular classroom. ( Classroom teachers don't have enough bilingual dictionaries) Also, they get to take the dictionary home to help them with their homework. Students will have more confident when doing their work. They will want to try to write more in English because they can find out those English words through translation. Students can make a list of all the vocabularies that they learned through translating. Thus, they will gain their vocabulary bank.
Our ESL students would so benefited from the donations.
ESL students won't struggling that much with language. They won't be "scared" when writing English. Bilingual dictionaries will help them gain confident in learning English, and make their school life much easier.
