The children of today are the problem solvers of the future! They want to dig in and discover, not just read out of textbooks. Which would you rather do, read a book about waves and energy or learn through hands-on experimentation, construction, and cooperation?
I have a diverse group of 33 fourth graders.
Like any class there is a variety of different cultures, learning styles, and abilities. They are energetic and social learners who love to be involved in their own education. They are questioners and thinkers. With your help, students of all ability levels will engage with science, math, engineering and design in fun and exciting ways. These hands-on materials will not only engage and motivate my students, it will also help to develop many life skills essential to today's young person.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are directly related to the Next Generation Science Standards for 4th grade. They will also integrate into the Common Core State Standards in math, reading, writing, and speaking.
Your generous funding will provide kits that will give all my students the opportunity to construct, test, and learn with models as they explore the ideas of waves, motion, energy conversion, Earth change, and engineering and design.
With the Amazing Waves kit, students will be learning about waves and the impact of erosion and weathering on coastlines. Student will have the opportunity to build several different types of models such as cars, rollercoasters, a solar house, and wind turbines while they are exploring the ideas of potential and kinetic energy, energy conversion, and engineering and design. I have requested several kits so that students are able to work in cooperative groups.
The materials also include reading resources that connect to our science topics.
The funding for this project will make a huge difference in the education of my students.
These kits provide real world scenarios that will encourage students to take a closer look at the world around them.
