This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Your confidence is what keeps people calling you to work". - Jimmy Cobb, jazz drummer. I want my kids to find that confidence to not only succeed in school but in life.
Our elementary school serves one of the low socio-economic parts of our city.
We have 80% of students on free or reduced lunch. Despite the challenges in their home lives, many students are excited to be at school but just need quality instruments to continue their music education.
My Project
Much of the equipment we have here at our school is at least 20 years old. Instruments are starting to fail while some things are broken beyond repair. Having quality drums will boost confidence and show that their community and generous people from all walks of life care about them. We will be able to perform at school concerts and in the community.
Having these three drums will impact the whole school.
These instruments will last for years, giving more students the opportunity to learn. Learning music in elementary will inspire them to play in middle school and high school and help to keep the programs in the secondary schools alive for the young students who desire to perform.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
