it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Reading is so much fun! But so many of my students haven't realized this yet.
Our school is located in Phoenix, Arizona, in an extremely high poverty area.
We provide a quality education to diverse linguistic, cultural, and social backgrounds. My students are a wonderful bunch of hard workers and are so bright and intelligent six and seven year olds; yet they must face and overcome adverse situations daily. High poverty levels and English language learners make up the majority of our students, which creates so many challenges for these young people that I can't even imagine. Many of them do not have access to books at home so it's so important to dazzle them with books at school.
My Project
Books by Mo Willems are not only well written, but engaging, funny, and easy to read. The few Mo Willems books that I have been able to find at thrift stores are always a hit, with kids often lining up to read them next during Independent Reading. They cheer when I bring some from the library, and they always ask when I will bring more.
Aside from instilling a love of reading, these books also encourage children to read with expression. Because everyone knows that the pigeon doesn't read like a robot, my students have to read it as like the pigeon is talking, which involves shouting, pouting, and begging. Making text-to-text connections is an important skill that can be difficult, but not with these books! My students always notice the similarities between the books, and are quick to run to me and point them out. Retelling is something that my students have a difficult time with, especially remembering all of the details in a book. However, they always remember the smallest details!
The two Mo Willems books that I already have have captivated my students, and I know that having more of them would inspire them to become better readers.
Thank you for your consideration and support for my students' reading.
