My students need bean bags for our reading nook to promote literacy during D.E.A.R.Time. (Drop Everything and Read)
My students love to curl up with a good book after a day of rigorous instruction of core subjects.
I want to promote literacy by providing a corner of the room where they can sit on bean bags, choose a book and read comfortably on their own. My students are identified and Gifted and Talented by the Department of Education. My students are highly proficient readers in a high poverty school. This advantage affords them the good fortune of reading for their own literacy enrichment as well as reading to other students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. Our school has a library that our students have unlimited access to borrow books. As a teacher, I would be very pleased to offer my students a fully designated bean bag equipped reading nook.
By offering a reading nooks with bean bags in my classroom, I hope to provide a relaxing reading corner for my students. I believe that by providing a fully-equipped reading nook with bean bags for the students is the best way to encourage them to read independently as well as to encouraging students from other classrooms who are on the verge of getting ready to read.
There donations of bean bags for our reading nook will improve our classroom because it is already filled with books that are culturally sensitive and my students are ready to read, identify and learn from these books.
Through literacy experiences, children see the values and beliefs of their culture presented in a positive and nurturing light. Language is also an important expression of culture. I have high expectations for the students in our community and they deserve bean bags.
