Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Do you think that High School was the best time of your life? Do you wish there was a way to record the memories of high school and learn about great lessons in life and education? With these cameras the students will create teachable moments for future generations of students at our school.
My students are in 12th grade Government / Economics.
I am a teacher at an inner city public high school. The school has a mission to guide students to success in college, leadership, and life by organizing and maintaining a rigorous academic program, as well as making them well-rounded individuals who participate in community service, collaborative teams, and clubs. A majority of the students are sons and daughters of immigrants or immigrants themselves.
My Project
With these cameras, memory cards, tripods and batteries the students will create reports for their Senior year, which include documenting field trips to the Los Angeles Sewage Treatment Facility, Beach Clean Ups, Presidential Libraries (Reagan and Nixon), and other Senior events that are important to their high school career. The students will use the cameras to create a narrative that ties into Government or Economics class that will be used to teach future students important life lessons about civic duties, the economic opportunity is sewage recycling, and developing a reporting style on issues that they are concerned about. What I found is that when students are doing research on a topic of their choice, their writing improves because they are able to express themselves visually, and these resources will provide an opportunity to have the students to tell stories in video reports.
My students are in a unique environment where they constantly exposed to news sources and stories, and with this project the students will be able to create news and stories that interest them and expose other people to their ideas and provide examples for future generations of students.
