Our youngest learners have the ability to maximize their learning in ways we never thought were possible, thanks to technology. They just need the right tools!
My first grade students are curious and full of wonder.
Our school is Kindergarten through 2nd grade building in a "village". I want to keep my students motivated, excited and happy to learn new things at school. The majority of my first graders come from very supportive, hard working families who believe that education is a priority.
My Project
With a mini iPad, my young learners would be able to explore technology by publishing writer's workshop stories and poems. They will also be able to share their thinking about books they read with the students in our class, other classrooms and their parents. We will use online tools for publishing and creating graphic organizers. Eventually, I would like my first graders to do some blogging to reinforce (in writing and with pictures) their learning and the things we are doing together in the classroom. The mini iPad is a perfect (portable) tool for young students to take from place to place in the building to capture learning highlights. Our standards and the world we live in, encourage children to use technology as a learning tool. Having a mini iPad will help my curious little learners reach for the CLOUDS (creative learning opportunities using devices)!
Using a mini iPad in my classroom will allow students to share their thinking through positive and expressive communication.
I encourage my young learners to be the best students, learners, friends and school citizens they can be. I hope to use this technology to motivate them to be risk takers, foster their curiosity and become citizens who understand and use a variety of tools for learning and communicating.
