Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Can you imagine a student that cannot participate because she doesn't have a pencil? Well imagine 1/3 of all students in a school in need of basic school supplies. I want students to have enough supplies, so they can learn without the challenge of securing colored pencils, notebooks, or glue sticks.
These young scientists are eager to ask questions, explore the outdoors, and create meaningful projects.
They are eager to participate, but are desperately in need of basic school materials. Students lack notebooks and art materials for daily class work and special projects. This is a high poverty school zone with 100% free lunch. Most students and many teachers stay after school until 5 pm for clubs, homework assistance, tutoring, and sports. We would stay even later if dinner and late evening activities were available!
My Project
Students will use the materials daily for science field notebooks, class work, extended learning projects, and science labs. They use colored pencils every day for drawing science diagrams, making posters for presentations, and analyzing data (colorful charts and graphs to use math for science applications). White boards will be used to check for understanding in a fun, auditory, question-based format instead of on paper and for outdoor science labs.
Basic class supplies, science lab and art materials will enable students to be prepared to participate and learn.
Notebooks will help those students who cannot buy their own stay organized and keep up with science labs and class assignments. They won't have to worry about getting supplies on their own or spend 10 minutes asking to borrow supplies from others! This will help students have a learning environment where poverty is not an impediment for success.
