My students need 8 Chromebooks to more fully understand digital literacy as well as allow them more freedom in how they choose to access content in my classroom.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Imagine having the creative power of the Internet at your fingers in history class every day, regardless of if you had a smartphone in your pocket or not.
My 9th and 10th graders are a diverse bunch in every sense of the word - ethnic background, family income, reading level, access to technology - the list could go on.
A unifying theme, though, is that they are generally excited to come to history class. However, the digital divide is very real in my classroom - some students have their own laptop at home that they can bring to school, some have a smartphone in their pocket they can use, while others do not have a way to access the web inside or outside of class. These Chromebooks would level the digital divide in my classroom.
My Project
Remember history class? Textbooks were the highlight of it, right? Dry facts presented monolithically, to be memorized as soon as possible? While this is not what my history classroom looks like, this project would allow for significant changes to occur in it. This set of Chromebooks would give my students that opportunity to be historians every day in class. They would have the opportunity to learn to locate, evaluate, and synthesize sources - sources they found! - as we move through our world history class. The skills these Chromebooks would allow my students to practice would allow them to become better historians.
Thank you for considering funding this project!
As I mentioned, these Chromebooks will allow my students to be better historians. However, they will also allow these 9th and 10th graders to develop skills that will be useful to them outside of my history classroom and outside of school.
Thank you for considering this worthy project.
