A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are excited to begin their day at school! They love coming and always have a great attitude for reading. Throughout the day, my students do a variety of reading from whole class lessons to free choice reading. I hope to instill the joy of reading and improving individual levels.
My students are happy kids who love coming to school everyday.
They enjoy learning about new academic topics and I enjoy teaching them. However, nothing is as exciting for my students as reading! One of their favorite times of the day is free choice reading. They love to go to the school or classroom library and pick a book to read. Whether it's a new book they haven't read, or one that's a constant favorite, free choice reading is the time of day I know is being cherished and loved. The fact that they have a wide selection of books to choose from is what encourages this love for reading!
My Project
With a wide selection of books in my class library, my students will not only have access to a variety of genres and authors but they will continue to be encouraged to enhance their reading. All of the books and book bins will be for our class library and part of my Readers Workshop Curriculum.
I will use some of the titles for Interactive Read Alouds where upon reading, we will discuss comprehension and reading strategies. Discussions will lead to partner work, journal writing and individual analysis of character traits and main ideas. With multiple copies of books, students can work in pairs and have the access to the books themselves during reading lessons. Along with partner work, my students can choose their own free choice books from this wide selection of books. Having enough resources for all my students makes a world of difference in their learning!
If my project is funded, my students will have access to a wide variety of books on their level.
They can read books that are just right for them, which means they are reading and understanding concepts, main ideas, problems and solutions. This is the best kind of reading for students! With this exposure, my students will be able to go to public libraries and use their knowledge and find other books of interest.
