Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our students will be only limited by their imaginations with this dream come true collection of Legos, building plates, and storage containers. Allowing 20+ students to build at once can sometimes create problems finding just the right piece. Not so this time, with 2,000+ pieces within reach!
My classroom consists of 24 boys and girls with varying ability levels.
Our elementary school is located in a small town in South Carolina. Although the students come from a variety of backgrounds, one thing remains the same--their love for hands-on activities! Our school is embracing 21st century learning and trying to provide students with as many opportunities as possible to learn through STEM, wonder, and inquiry. I have seen how engaged students can be with hands-on, minds-on learning, and I am excited to make this possible with the addition of Legos to our classroom. We plan on sharing these materials with a neighboring teacher's all boys classroom, who could definitely benefit from hands-on learning!
My Project
These Lego sets will be used in a variety of ways. During math, we will use the Legos to give students a visual for fractions. Students will be able to manipulate the Legos while adding and subtracting fractions, finding equivalent fractions, and more. The Legos will also aid in visualizing five minute increments on a clock when teaching time. These kits will encourage exploration, inquiry, visual perception, and wonder in our students' learning and allow students to form their own understanding of the content. The Legos will also be used in our after-school "Build It!" club where we will encourage creativity and competition among the students.
Thank you for your contribution to this project.
You will make it possible for our students to not only create original designs but make difficult to understand concepts such as fractions and telling time easy to comprehend. We only wish you could be there to see the ear-to-ear smiles when our project is funded and we announce . . . "build it and they will come."
