My students need a quality camcorder to produce high quality video projects in my film studies class. They have iPads and will use iMovie to create projects.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
In the modern world students are inundated with multimedia. Whether its TV or the Internet, students are bombarded with creative video and audio designed to stimulate, educate, persuade, and more. What better way to learn about this power than to create video projects themselves!
My students are juniors and seniors in high school taking a class in film studies.
We examine how film can be used to teach history in particular. My students live in rural Maine. Our school is surrounded by farms and small villages. Most of my students know about the rest of the world through the Internet. Our school has about 400 students in grades 9-12. The students who take this class have a passion for creativity, history, and a desire to explore the world.
My Project
Currently my students write about film making. They do research and record their analysis. One thing I often hear from them is that they would love to create films about films themselves, we just don't have the resources to do it. Starting this year our district has iPads and iMovie. We also have some LCD projectors that can be used. So I thought it was a great time to get a camcorder they can take turns using to create a variety of film projects. This would allow them to try some of the techniques we will read about in the classroom! It will be hands on learning as students will follow a real film making process to create their films.
It is my hope to even potentially have a film festival at my school to showcase their projects. Students will learn about the history films are attempting to portray and the techniques used to convey this onscreen. Then they will do the same thing themselves with shorter films.
It is 2013 and the world today is filled with messages that can be disturbing and overwhelming.
Our students see this on TV and the Internet. In my class we attempt to analyze how film influences and persuades people. In many ways these skills may be the most important for living in our world today. What better way to do this than to create their own movies and experience the process themselves?
