My students need to be able to incorporate math into our walking club. Pedometers would be used so that children could track their miles and steps.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our student population is 98% below the poverty line, our school was hit by a tornado and we have been displaced into modular buildings. The 100 Mile Club was started to increase school attendance, and increase physical fitness. We have had a huge interest and would love to grow the program.
Our students come from the most depressed area in Springfield, Massachusetts and we are 98% below the poverty line.
Twenty five percent of our students are identified as Special Education. With all of the odds against them, our students come to school daily, and work to put their best foot forward. The 100 Mile Club was started in large part because many of our students are unable to safely play outside due to the crime in the neighborhood. The 100 Mile Club provides our students, families, and staff the opportunity to run or walk before school. We incorporate social skill building, character development, social studies, and are hoping to incorporate math in the future.
My Project
The pedometers that we are requesting will be used by our students to create graphs and charts on their number of steps and distance traveled. Currently we track miles and post them on posters. With the pedometers we hope to have the students track their own miles and create their own charts. This will allow the 100 Mile Club program to incorporate math into the amazing walking/running program. We have a unique opportunity to blend math curriculum with physical activity.
Any donations that we are able to receive will greatly allow us to improve our program.
The 100 Mile Club is amazing program that has helped our school increase school attendance, parental involvement, and we are hoping we can incorporate math into the program. The incorporation of math into the program will help our school continue to improve standardized test scores.
