Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are unable to have the experiences that many other students have because of their lack of resources. I created this project to provide them with experiences that will help them grow academically and socially. I love connecting my classroom to the world.

The school population consists of mostly low-income families with 92% of the students living under the poverty level.

Many of our students are at risk for poor academic achievement. We have students from many different backgrounds and with multiple needs that need to be met each and every day. The needs can range from learn disabilities to helping them acquire the English language. Our school sits in the center of a housing project. My classroom consists of twenty students with many needs (like those listed above). Every day presents a unique challenge. The staff along with myself are deeply committed to making sure each student had the chance to succeed in their school career.

My Project

Third grade is a wonderful year to begin the study of biographies. My students have already read two biographies (from the same series) this year. The best part about it--I have NEVER heard one complaint when it comes time for our "biography class". They literally run to get their biography notebooks and are ready to learn. I want to continue our studies of great people and their stories. These two books would help me to continue to introduce my class to inspirational people. We would spend time reading, discussing, and reflecting on the lives of these two individuals.

First off, these books with enhance their reading skills.

Secondly, it will change the lives of my students because they will be able to see how much impact one person can have on the world. I believe it is important to connect our lives to impactful individuals. My students can learn, discuss, and reflect on the lives of these two influential women.
