Bringing Current Events into the Classroom

My students need Time for Kids magazine to incorporate current event, non-fiction reading into their weekly homework.

My Students

The 4th Grade students are eager to read and devour new, interesting, and engaging non-fiction text focused on current events.

The fourth grade is full of energetic and enthusiastic students who are excited about learning and coming to school each day.

These students come from an urban area of Denver and are very diverse in their backgrounds, but one thing they all share is their love for learning.The fourth graders are hard working, dedicated, and diligent to the tasks set before them. I know they will grow in their knowledge and interest of current events if given the opportunity and exposure.

My Project

Time for Kids magazine provides a weekly issue for each student to read and take home. These magazines take current issues in our world and write them in an engaging and comprehensible fashion geared towards students. Each week students will receive a magazine to read and respond to. Students will be informed on current issues, improve their non-fiction reading skills, and discuss issues that are important to them with their peers.

Many students do not have access to current issues and high quality non-fiction text.

These magazines will help students become informed citizens and improve their non-fiction reading skills to help them to become college and career ready.
