I was really excited when my students, Amanda and Mark, thought up this project to make Journalism more engaging. They want to mirror their code programs for our Journalism class in order to teach others how to code, to make our online publication even better.
They developed this idea when they found out that our Apple TV system had been funded. With all of this technology, the mirroring capability will allow them to teach their coding skills to the rest of the class. It will also allow them to create tutorials for students to view outside of the classroom.
The skills are endless, from collaborating to making tutorial videos to uploading content to coding, all for Journalism-STEAM in action! These skills are 21st century skills that will advance their critical thinking and technological skills to produce an online publication that is truly their own!
In Their Own Words
We are trying to create an online magazine publication for our school that incorporates coding and not just a PDF version. The PDF version is the old way and we want to teach the class, (and even our teacher), how to code.
This leadership opportunity will truly be our own. Ms. Toll has limited coding skills at best. With these additional iPads to the technology that we have in our room, we will be able to become the teacher to coach our classmates on how to code and how to implement it into our school magazine publication.
This project will solve a lot of problems. Our school publication is okay using PDFs to show our hard work; however, with these iPads we won't have to use as many PDFs because we can use coding. This will bring the school publication into this century.
