Break Down the Walls in the Science Classroom

Help me give my students the Oculus Quest to take them beyond the walls of our classroom to experience science that they would not be able to experience otherwise.

My Students

I teach approximately 110, 9th grade physical science students. My students thrive in a classroom that is innovative, caring, safe and challenging. The students look forward to challenges that allow them to critically think, create, collaborate and communicate their ideas.

My students are curious, enthusiastic, and creative; they are not only wanting to be immersed but empowered.

Students are creating memories and realizing their passions. They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared for anything.

My Project

In my classroom I like to personalize the learning as much as possible and so therefore I have stations set up where students have a lot of voice and choice in what they experience. Therefore, one of the stations would be the Oculus quest station. In this station the students would use the google tilt app that is an intuitive 3D VR creation tool that would empower my students to unleash their creativity. The students will be able to now fully express their ideas in real-time, from initial conception, straight into 3D and create detailed models, scenes and artwork about what they are learning.

Empowering and immersing my students into the science content is a crucial element in my classroom.

With the Oculus Quest, my students will actually be able to explore scientific phenomena virtually that is not safe to experience first hand in the classroom or experience the science through virtual field trips that are too far to travel to. I want to provide my students with these experiences so they are able to explore the world and its scientific phenomena as much as possible!

By having access to the Oculus Quest, my students would be able to:

Set goals, use technology to achieve them and reflect on their learning.

Explore real world issues virtually and come up with solutions.

Know and use the LAUNCH Design Process to solve problems.

Create 3D Products that are new and better.

Publish and/or present something that they created to an appropriate audience.

Think and create like a scientist.
