This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"There's so much more to a book than just reading." Maurice Sendak That is so true for my students! These books represent an opportunity for children to share, discuss and help each other learn.

I teach thirty amazing first-graders in an inner city K-8 school.

My classroom is a stimulating, creative environment. Students encourage each other to learn from their mistakes and grow. It is truly a community of learners. These children will be classmates until the 8th-grade, and I encourage them to be caring classroom citizens. My class LOVES to read!

My Project

Our upcoming ELA unit is a cross-curricular unit that delves into "Making Choices" and "Needs and Wants" in Social Studies. It also includes money in math. The books I'm requesting will be used as part of a Classroom "Text Club". Students will read the books in small groups throughout the unit of study. Some of the books are on CD which will allow the children to listen to fluent reading. Our class was fortunate to have the "Text Club" books for our first units of study funded by DonorsChoose. The "Text Club" was an amazing success! As a teacher, it was thrilling to see children so happy to read. I hope to keep the momentum going with these books that are aligned to our third unit of study.

These books will help quench my students' thirst to read!
