Being Safe in School - Social Distancing Lap Trays

Help me give my students personal lap trays that include storage compartments for their materials so that we can maintain social distancing within my classroom.

My Students

My students come from a blue-collar coastal town in rural Maine. They are exuberant, smart, and very interested in the world around them. Although many of them live in homes with financial challenges, they courageously view themselves as capable learners, ready to tackle the world.

I believe my first graders have unlimited potential.

They just need our help and guidance so that they are able to realize their promise as future teachers, engineers, doctors, and scientists. It is up to me as one of their first teachers to provide the foundation they need to prepare them for the career of their choice.

My Project

Each student will receive their own private lap desk. Students will be able to move their lap desks to a socially distant safe space somewhere in the classroom. The desks have room to store their individual school supplies, which will minimize the sharing of materials.

The lap desks will help create a safe learning environment for my students and allow all of us to learn together at the same time in school.

Safety is always our first priority in school and these lap desks will enable us all to be safe.
