Mrs. Ferstle from Redford, MI is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Mrs. Ferstle is requestingMy students need a projector so they are able to see authentic Spanish materials (books, maps, brochures, etc.) displayed off a laptop or document camera in my room.

Imagine sitting in the back of the classroom and not being able to see the overhead projector or the small TV in the corner of the room. How would that affect your learning? The technology in my classroom is outdated and the students are missing out on learning opportunities because of it!
The students that attend our high school are looking for better educational opportunities by being a part of this school district.
Our school offers many A.P. courses and even offers an academic institute for students on an accelerated course. Many are coming from Detroit Public Schools, where they are unsatisfied with what they are learning. They are searching for that one teacher or one subject to spark their interest in learning! The foreign language requirements to graduate have changed and now require students to take two years of the same language to graduate. With the increase in students enrolled in Spanish, my need for technology to keep them motivated and interested in the target language is even greater than before. The students at my school need more than the basic textbooks to keep them engaged and on track. They want to incorporate media and technology into their classrooms. They are capable of having a successful and fulfilling high school experience.
The projector will allow me to attach a laptop to it and project things like educational movies, clips of native speakers talking, Powerpoint slideshows, and even Jeopardy review games on the screen in my classroom. I'm currently using a small TV mounted in the far corner of the classroom that's hooked up to my computer, but many of the students complain that it's too small for them to see. I end up having to read any text on the screen. Additionally, the projector will also allow me to attach a document camera to it so I can show authentic materials that I've collected in my travels to Spanish-speaking countries on the screen. This can include things like maps when students are learning how to give directions, menus when they are learning how to ask for and order food, and excerpts from various textbooks that I used in my studies as a supplemental learning tool. The state's standards and benchmarks require me to use authentic materials and this device will ensure that I can.
I truly believe that in order to keep this generation of students engaged in learning, we need to be on board with the changes and advancements in technology.
By adding this projector to my classroom, I can open a whole new world of educational experiences to my students and enrich their time in Spanish class. Being exposed to all the resources available will only further their learning and make them successful in learning one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
