Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the school year I want my students to have explored as many art mediums as possible. My biggest challenge is getting my students engaged in a repetitive medium, such as pencil. My students get bored quickly so having other options will EXCITE my students.

My students are 80% Hispanic, 7% Black, 5% Polynesian, 7% other.

More than half of my students are on a free or reduced priced lunch program and half of my students are English language learners. My students live in low-income neighborhoods and their parents work 2-3 jobs.

My Project

We will make lanterns inspired from Asian Art from the watercolor, watercolor paper, and brushes. My students will learn brush strokes and Asian art techniques. My Students will research how to write their names in Chinese characters using same Asian brush techniques. My project will allow students to understand Asian art and understand watercolors.

It also allows students to dive into their own imaginations.

It will open up ideas and questions for students about current Asian culture that they might have never heard about before. It will enrich my students with a different view and perspective from the Asian culture.
