My students need art supplies, such as paper, glue and crayons to allow them to take their learning to another level. Art related projects bridge the gap between learning and feeling subject content.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Regardless of age, grade, or ability, students love art. Yet, so often children are only taught from a textbook and with worksheets. This format does not target all students, as not all students are alike. Many need to "feel" the information. Art allows one to create a connection to the content.
I currently teach 7th grade history at a middle school in Southern California.
The school is made up of 2,000 students ranging from low to middle income families. 1/3 of the student population is bused in from lower income neighborhoods. From this pool, I am assigned 150 students.
My Project
Over the years I have developed a curriculum that is based on the use of art to reinforce the content/subject being taught. With each unit (ex: Anthropology, Islam, or Medieval Japan and Europe), I incorporate art projects that focus on each particular topic. All projects are then placed in a "Passport/Portfolio Book". As the year progresses, each passport will include art projects created and information pertaining to the subject learned. At the end of the school year, the passport provides each student with a memorable reference that includes both regional art and written information.
The most unfortunate part of budget cuts over the past few years has been the loss of art in the classroom.
It is my hope that with your generous help, my students will have the chance to benefit from this mix of art and information.
