After several years away, I have returned to the public schools for my 23rd year of teaching. I am teaching Fine Arts at a public urban high school with over 2,000 students from more than 30 countries. I have had five days of class with my new students but I can tell you they are incredible. There is an energy in such a diverse high school that is truly unique. Today in my classroom I heard at least 5 different languages. This project will help provide the art supplies necessary to start an Art and Mural Club at my high school as well as provide the actual paint, brushes and even a tool box for Mural Club!
This school year, after such a difficult few years during the pandemic, I want to go above and beyond and provide my new Art students with the highest-quality art supplies I can because they deserve it!
I want this year to be amazing and I need more art supplies than I currently have to make this happen. I want to help build the feeling of community that is already present in my new school both for staff and for students. Working large-scale and with large groups of students requires both a lot of planning and a lot of consumable art supplies but it is worth it. Creating murals and large canvas artwork that can be displayed throughout our school is one way to build community, teach teamwork and art design skills, and is also a great way to have fun with students!
