This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Art provides my students creativity and imagination while allowing all students to experience success. Art IS the spice of life in Kindergarten and students enjoy having access to materials to create with in their own way!

I have 20 students who are each eager to come and learn each day!

Many of my Kindergarten children come to school with no prior schooling experience and are immediately enchanted by the rich, colorful, engaging environment. They laugh and smile at school and I fill their day with a child-centered approach full of rich and meaningful play and art experiences. I teach in an urban and disadvantaged area of New Mexico. Sadly, our state legislature has slashed per pupil spending each year and we have had to turn to citizen philanthropists such as yourself to ensure we have access to necessary art materials. Our school is Title One and serves 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are learning English as a second language. They LOVE school and especially find joy in creating art! Thank you for enriching the lives of my students!

My Project

My students need paint, paper and crayons to help restore our dwindling art supply. Art is essential and requires consumable materials such as paper and painting materials. New Mexico has cut per-pupil spending more than any other state and we are reliant on amazing philanthropists to gain the materials essential to keep art alive. In our district, formal art classes are only offered every other year, therefore it is especially important for my students to have the opportunity to create here IN our classroom! I give students many opportunities for open-ended art experiences that focus on the process more so than the product. The supplies provided will be implemented in both art committees and will also serve to help restore open-access art materials that my students are given free use of in our very own classroom art center! Having an art center is important, as students are able to try and explore their creativity.

All children are successful at art and having opportunities to express themselves in creative ways builds their confidence and enriches their lives.
