This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the most incredible tiny humans in the world. They are passionate, creative and incredibly strong. They come from all over the world and all walks of life. Even though we are all vastly different, every day we come together as a team to work, learn and laugh together.

My students and school are the living example of the achievement gap that affects our country's education system.

My school is 100% free and reduced lunch, and often under scrutiny from from the state and other institutions because we do not always stack up to our wealthier peers. What we may lack in food and test scores is not comparable to the passion in our hearts. My students are incredibly hard working and amazing because it takes that much more for them to test "average." They come to school hungry, hurting and scared and leave all of that at my classroom door for the 8 hours a day where they are allowed to be children.

My Project

These materials will help my students bring their creativity to life. I need construction paper and markers to allow them to color, copy, paste and bind original books. Currently they are writing "how to" books and we will be using colored paper to make their final drafts actually look and feel like books. We will use the non-fiction listening center books to make sure that we can understand both fictional stories and books that teach us about the world around us. We also need new headphones because all of ours are broken, and it is really hard to play educational games on the computer when you can't hear the directions. I am also asking for tools like ticket holders in which I can insert worksheets. It may sound silly, but for a second grader doing a worksheet with a dry easier marker is less stressful than with a pencil because erasing and perfecting is easier. The same goes with the buzzers I am asking for. It will be much easier to participate in class discussions or competitions on a team with them.

These materials will change my students lives because they will make their time in my classroom more fun and comfortable.

Most of my students use school as a escape from uncertainties at home and these materials will help them love learning and will keep them in school.
