iPads are transforming education at the primary grades! Children being able to connect with math, writing, and reading just through the touch of their hands is incredible! Sadly, my district's budget has not kept up with advances in technology (i.e. iPads) - our computers are 10+ years old and slow.
My very creative and enthusiastic class is called "The Second Grade All-Stars", because we love baseball!
Our classroom has a baseball theme - our table groups are named after bases (1st base, 2nd base, etc.), and our class meeting area is called the "All-Stars Dugout". My students love to read fiction and non-fiction books and magazines, and they love to complete book reports. My students also enjoy using computers to listen to stories, learn interactive math games, and publish their amazing writing.
There are over a dozen languages spoken in my class, and most of my students receive free/reduced-price lunch. We are always so grateful for any support given to our class, and one of our favorite things to do is to write thank you notes to our fabulous teammates - Our DONORS!
My Project
Right off the bat, let me say that my Second Grade All-Stars and I have been so fortunate and thankful to have had our previous DonorsChoose.org projects funded by generous donors! This proposal for an iPad is our "World Series Championship" project that we want to hit out of the ballpark! We would love to have an iPad for our classroom to "cover all of the bases"... inspiring, motivating, and engaging our learning on a daily basis! There are literally thousands of iPad apps (many free!) for reading, math, writing, phonics, and literacy which will reinforce the learning being taught in our classroom...with these apps we'll be able to swing for the fences and "Bat a Thousand"!
This year 3 primary grade classrooms at our school have been using iPads every day.
It has been eye-opening to observe how this incredible technology has transformed the way children are learning - it's a whole new ball game! I want my students to be able to hit a home run with their learning - an iPad and protective cover will engage my "team" and increase their academic achievement to Major League levels! Won't you step up to the plate and help us be in a league of our own?
