Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach ELA at a public middle school, which is also a Title I Campus. This means that over 40 percent of our students are from low-income households. There are approximately 600 students at our campus. Despite the income of these households, our students are bright, eager children who are transitioning to becoming young adults. This age group loves to soak up every ounce of knowledge like a sponge!
"The more you read, the more you know.
The more you learn, the more places you'll go!" - Dr. Seuss
My goal is to help build my classroom library so that students can pick novels based on their interest when they return to our campus.
My Project
When my students return to the classroom, I want to have an array of books that can help them adjust not just emotionally, but also help adjust with the social climate of our world right now.
Many of the books I have requested have main characters that come from different cultural and racial backgrounds.
I hope this can help my students relate to their choice books and expand their love of reading.
I also selected some children's books that will help me and help my students cope with the roller coaster of emotions they have endured the last 5 months. I hope to read these to them virtually so that we can all connect and grow closer.
