My Students: In my classroom, there is a very wide range of student abilities. In order to meet my students' needs, I differentiate my instruction. We had been meeting in small, flexible groups on the floor. We just were given a table! Now we are in need of some chairs.
We are the largest school district in our state.
More than sixty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches. Half my students are English Language Learners and speak another language at home. I have twenty-four students that are eager to learn. It is one month into the school year, and we have worked very hard to create a wonderful learning community.
My Project
My Project: These chairs will help to facilitate meeting each student where they are academically and help them achieve their goals. I teach a mini lesson, just one very specific skill. Then, the students go and work on that skill. While they are working, I call groups of 2-5 students to work on guided lessons or strategy lessons. The guided lessons are usually students at the same level. The strategy lessons can be students at any level that can use additional help on a specific skill/strategy. The groups are always changing, so having a central spot to meet, and not disturb others' learning, is very important.
These chairs will help the students stay focused during our small group work.
Instead of using chairs that are too low or chairs with their feet dangling, they would be able to sit at an appropriate level at the desk together with our materials right in front of us.
