My students are getting excited about graduation in a few months and their slogan is "Go B16 or Go Home" for the Class of 2016. In my classroom, we still have a lot of learning left, so we are Going B16, not Going Home quite yet! My students love projects that demonstrates their understanding.
My students are high school seniors who are preparing to enter the college and career world very soon.
However, most of them are faced with adverse situations outside of school, that often affects their ability to focus on learning. For some, they do not fully comprehend the importance of a high school education because their parents did not graduate. We live in rural Mississippi and our school is a feeder school for several outlying rural communities. Some students ride the bus for over an hour each day to get to and from school. Our school is considered high poverty and almost all of our students are on free or reduced lunch. My students do not have Internet service at home which Tit difficult to complete assignments and restricts their ability to learn outside of school. Their parents do not have the money to purchase school supplies and it is often left up to the teacher to provide supplies necessary for learning.
My students will use the colored paper, poster board, glue, markers and colored pencils in the classroom to create campaign material for a mock presidential elections. The copy paper and stapler will be used to create brochures and candidate information for political solicitation. They will also prepare campaign speeches and prepare for a mock debate. We will use the vinyl sheets to create stickers and t-shirts for candidates. They will learn how the election process works. Another project we are working on is learning to create heat transfer vinyl designs for school t-shirts as well as school decals for various school clubs and organizations. This project was started last year and it has been very successful. We need more vinyl sheets and the students would like to venture into etching with the etching tool. The students use a computer to create images for t-shirts and decals. This has enabled my students to practice team work, entrepreneurial skills, and graphic design skills.
Your donations provide my students with classroom supplies that we would not have otherwise.
Your support will enable my students to end the year strong. DonorsChoose.org has truly made a positive impact in my students' lives. They love to see what our special friends have sent us. My students' know that I usually have the supplies they need to be successful. Teachers love my room too because they know I always have what they need as well. Thank you in advance for your kindness!
