3D PRINTERS

Help me give my students a "Maker Space." This will be a safe space for students to explore a career choice. They can work a their own pace before, during, and after school.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Have you ever watched a piece of machinery? All the moving parts working cohesively to create a finished project and most of us, are fascinated. My students are just like that. My IT department allowed me to use a high-end 3D printer. While I had it, I ran it often. As the various classes passed through my Computer Lab, without exception, students stopped to watch as the machine work. I was given the opportunity to explain how the machine was laying down a line of filament as it passed over the print.

My students are ready to enter the world of Design and Modeling.

Students at my school are inquisitive and curious. They are “hungry” to learn. Many are behind their grade level standards in reading and math even after intervention in different formats (coach class, afterschool tutoring, small groups). Design and Modeling would support math standards. Using free software, students would explore number conversion, perspective, and CAD design.

My Project

In the design process, students will have to apply conversion of decimals to fractions, metric to standard measurement. They will need to view models from different perspectives to assure a quality print. Students will be able to use their Design and Modeling skills from home or any computer that has Internet access. Once a model is complete, the teacher will be able to begin printing. Please help my students begin their journey into the world of Computer Design and Modeling. 3D printing allows students to see first hand what is possible with only an imagination.
