Ms. Holder from Tompkinsville KY is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Storytelling and Robots = Bot Tales

My students need 2 robotic kits for STEM hands-on learning opportunities and 2 microphones to record their story. The end product will be 100% digital and a Bot Tale will be produced.

My Students

Presently, we have 420 students. We live in an improvised area with 70% of our students receiving free/reduce lunch. These students work hard every day and we are constantly striving to challenge them.

The middle school library is the main resource for learning.

Our students visit the library at least bi-monthly with their reading classes. They also have the opportunity to visit the library during free time, breakfast and lunch or after finishing classroom assignments.

Our Makerspace area is designed for students to develop 21st century skills needed to be successful in this ever changing world. We want to continue to add supplies to our area.

My Project

What a better way to tell an original story than to program a robot to animate it. A team of students will write a creative story, create an obstacle course as the stage for their story, and program their robot to navigate the stage while students narrate their tale.

Students will first collaborate and compose an original story as a team.

Next, they will create an obstacle course that captures the setting of their story. Third, students will design, construct, and program their MINDSTORM LEGO Robot to run through the obstacle course by itself.

Students will video the robot as it runs through the course using a video camera. The video footage will be uploaded and video will be edited using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Microsoft Movie Maker. Students will use the microphones to narrate the story and will import this voice over into their timeline. Once students are satisfied with their work, the video will be produced and showcased on the school's website for all to view.

Students can then enter their work into competitions at Student Technology Leadership Program. They will also gain experience in preparation for the 2019 Jr. Beta Convention.
