I am a Visual Arts teacher for 7th and 8th grade students. I am incredibly passionate about what I do and am excited and honored to have the opportunity to see my students' works be recognized at the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in New York City.
I have won recognition at the State and National level for the work I do with my students.
I have been named a 2014 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator, a 2015 MAEA and NAEA Western Region Middle Level Educator of the Year, and have won several grants for my classroom over the years.
My Project
With the funds requested, I will be able to attend the 2015 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards to see my students recognized for their Gold Medals as well as attend professional learning opportunities at museums, schools, and various events during the time spent in New York City. I plan to take the ideas and information learned from the event back to my classroom to implement new projects and ideas with my visual arts students.
This funding will allow me to spend time in a city known for many artists while celebrating my students as artists in the most established competition in the country.
I will be able to take back the ideas and inspiration from the event and surrounding museums and cultural points and bring them back to my students with new lessons, resources, and ideas.
