Imagine a classroom of enthusiastic, energetic, kindergarten students! We work hard each day to learn to read, write, learn math, and develop social skills. I want to see all of my students have an opportunity to experience real life learning. My classroom is a place of security and opportunity.
My students are 5 and 6 year-old bundles of energy!
My class is very caring, responsible, and we work well as a team. We are lucky enough to have just 20 kindergarten students this year, but it's just me and only me in my classroom with my students - no outside help. As in any Kindergarten classroom, I have a wide range of abilities - some come to Kindergarten reading chapter books while others are working on identifying the letters in their name. We have a big school (almost 1000 students) in one of the fastest growing school districts in Missouri. Our population boom means lots of growth but our funds are lagging behind. This is one of the reasons we have little technology, but I know how important it would be to have more in my classroom.
My Project
A classroom with no technology is like a bicycle with no wheels. Technology opens doors in a classroom and turns mundane activities into real-life experiences. Technology gives us thousands of books to practice reading without ripped pages or covers falling off. Technology will give my struggling students many more ways to practice basic skills that are needed. This technology will have so many apps to reach my students to reinforce letter and number identification, counting, recognizing sight words, and so many other things. Likewise, my learners that are needing more of a challenge will also be able to access more apps at their level to keep taking them to the next step in their learning. I have been utilizing more STEM and Maker Space type learning in my classroom, and this technology will open many more doors in this area as well. Having iPads in my classroom will help my students achieve on many new levels and I'm excited to see where this technology can take us!
I will see my students grow in new ways and soar to new levels.
Currently, when I am bringing back students to work with me in small groups, they feel as if it's a chore. If I am able to do this with this technology, they will be excited at the chance to practice skills or complete tasks with me! Technology will be a part of these kids' lives forever and it's essential that I start bringing those life-experiences to my classroom. We're falling behind and it's not okay anymore. I'm asking for you to help my students.
