"Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding." R. J. Mehan. Students in our specialized instruction program present with a variety of special needs and abilities. They are hard working and have one goal, to succeed!
We are special education teachers in a K-5 public school.
Our school is considered to be in a high poverty area. The incredible children we serve are in a special education program. Some are able to move freely and verbalize, others, may exhibit difficulty communicating or moving their body freely as they wish. Regardless of these varying abilities of special need, every child who enters our classroom exhibits the same desire to be given the skills to communicate and meet their academic and social goals each day!
My Project
One iPad will be used in each of the special education classrooms. The iPad will serve as a new way to present academic, language and social skills. We look forward to allowing students to practice reading and phonemic awareness through a variety of applications, as well as, math, science and social studies skills through engaging applications and websites. They will be able to carryover language and occupational therapy skills practice through applications their therapist's recommend. Our students will be excited to use the iPad in ways that enable them to be successful in acquiring new skills.
This project for the iPad is important to the students in our program as it will provide them with a dynamic opportunity to learn skills that will help them become stronger in skills preparing them for the future.
It will provide a way of learning that decreases frustration and provides quick, positive feedback as they learn skills in new and exciting ways.
